Varsity Coaches |
Derek Benton
Head Coach
 |
Derek has been teaching and coaching for 22
years. This will be his 4th year as the Varsity boys
head coach. Derek received his B.S. from West Georgia, MED at
Jacksonville State and my EDS degree from LMU. He has coached
Varsity football (14 years), Baseball (2 years) and Golf (6 years).
Derek is currently the Head Coach for 9th grade football and is the
Head Coach for Boys lacrosse.

Kris Frier

Kris was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. Kris
has been playing lacrosse since he was old enough to hold a stick in
his hand. Starting in youth leagues to traveling teams he worked his
way up to playing varsity his freshman year in high school and
starting all four years. He was also a two year captain and an
all-county defender. After high school Kris played two years at
Onondaga Community College. His career at Onondaga went 36-0,
winning two national championships. From OCC Kris went on to play
his last two years at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC. While at
Mars Hill Kris was named team captain, defensive MVP, team MVP, MHC
Head, Heart and Hustle award, first team all deep south, 11 time
defensive player of the week and 2nd team All American. After
college Kris began coaching in NY for two seasons. Since moving to
Grayson in 2010 Kris has coached at the youth league level and this
is his first year with Grayson HS. |
Rick Santry
Assistant Coach

Relatively new to the sport, this is Rick’s 4th year
coaching Grayson Lacrosse.
Prior to lacrosse, he spent 4 years as Head Football Coach
for Grayson’s 8th grade team, capturing his 100th
win in 2008 after 10 years of coaching association football.
Background includes coaching and playing a variety of sports,
highlighted by an 8 year Rugby playing career.

Jake Schwab
Head Coach

Originally from Buffalo, NY, Jake
has been a fan of lacrosse and hockey since he could walk. When his
high school in Old Bridge, NJ began a lacrosse program, he was quick
to sign up and played defense in the first two seasons the school
ever had, playing against well established programs from around New
Jersey. This is his first year at Grayson and his first season as a
coach. When off the field, he teaches chemistry. |
Al Griffin
Head Community Coach

Al has been coaching athletics in the Grayson
community for over 8 years. His coaching experience is with
football, baseball and lacrosse. This will be his fourth year
coaching lacrosse, with 1 season in the GLL coaching a U-15 team and
the last 3 years as the heady JV Boys Lay Coach for Grayson High
School. Al is a level 2 certified lacrosse coach. |
Joe Paul

Joe has been involved in the Grayson lacrosse program since its inception
as a JV coach. Joe has also coached lacrosse at the youth
level. |

Coach Smith
received his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University
in 1987 where he participated in Intramural sports including
basketball, softball and broomball winning the Class C Broomball
Championship twice. Coach Smith attended Oakland High School in
Oakland, IA where he lettered in Football, Basketball, Baseball and
Golf. Coach Smith has been active with GAA youth sports since 2001
coaching football, baseball, basketball and lacrosse. In 2009, he
helped start the Grayson Lacrosse Youth and High School programs.
Coach Smith served as Assistant Community Coach at Grayson High
School and now coaches the Off-Season High School Lacrosse teams.
Coach Smith lives in Grayson with his wife, Jeni, and sons, Thatcher
and Beckett. |

Scott Marney |
Coach Marney is graduate of South Gwinnett and
attending Georgia Southern and DeKalb colleges. Since moving to
Grayson in 2000, he has coached youth league t-ball, baseball,
soccer, in-line hockey and boys & girls lacrosse. Coach Marney
spent 2 years as the first GAA lacrosse director and spear-headed
the effort to bring lacrosse to Grayson. He has been the high
school off-season coach for the past two years. Coach Marney lives
in Grayson with his wife, Dee, and children, Colin and Erin.
